For The Beginner - Cast Iron Golf Clubs Or Forged?

With a larger variety of golf clubs coming onto the scene every week, it can become more and more difficult to determine just exactly what you should be looking for when buying new clubs.
Read along as we discuss the types available and what they each can do for your game of golf.
First of all, it can be stated that standard golf clubs will work for just about anyone standing between 5 to six feet in height. And that holds equally for males and females. Taller or shorter? Then custom clubs may now come in to the picture.
Cast or forged iron clubs. Which?
For most folks, the standard cast iron golf clubs are the best way to go.
What makes cast iron the right choice for most? Because most standard cast iron golf clubs have a larger "sweet spot". That refers to the area right smack dab in the middel of the club face where you are supposed to hit the ball. The larger the "sweet spot" on a club face, the more area you have to strike the ball well. You can still be a little "off center" and the ball is still struck well because you have a larger margin of error. This makes cast iron clubs ideal for anyone who wants a more consistant shot., especially beginners. Without a steady consistant swing, a larger striking area will produce better shots overall. This is the major reason why you see larger or even "oversized" clubs made, especially the oversized drivers today. These clubs allow for a larger sweet spot and make the game a lot easier for the average player
With forged iron clubs you have the exact opposite. A smaller sweet spot that makes your drives that much harder to hit well.
So why are forged clubs even made?
For a very simple reason. Cast iron is a softer metal that offers a better "feel" on a shot. The more experienced player has a much more defined and repeatable swing, allowing them to hit the smaller sweet spot with much more consistancy. They don't need that larger "margin of error" the beginner needs. And now, the better "feel" allows him or her the added advantage of being able to manoevre and/or "shape" each shot to the circumstances as needed.
The next thing to look at is the shaft itself. Will we get one made from steel? Or will it be a composite material?
The important thing to look at here is your club head velocity. Any typical Sunday golfer will generate a club speed of 80 to 94 mph. With speeds registering lower than that, you ought to think of using a composite style of shaft on your clubs . Slower swing speeds mean less distance on your shots. Not a good thing. And that is where the composite golf club shaft enters the picture. It gives you a lot more distance than you would get with your normal swing and a steel shaft.
By contrast, those with good distances on their shots, will fare much better by using a steel shaft that will give them some touch and control on their shots.
You can find out your own swing speed by looking for a golf store that has a velocity speed gun or a radar gun package. It won't cost you much and you will know very quickly which type of shaft is best for you. You can even find some battery operated doppler radar devices on the market that you can set up and use to determine your club velocity by yourself.
With just these few starting hints, it is generally best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club assists or hinders your game. You are searching to determine your personal strong points and weak points. Try out the diverse types and sorts of clubs available to you and see what works best for your own game.

If the shoulders are in a closed position (facing to the right of the target) the clubhead travel will be inside-to-outside of the target line. With the shoulders parallel to the target line at impact, the clubhead travel will be inside-to-direct. This shoulder motion allows the clubhead to travel to the target, not away from the target as in the other positions.Remember the shoulders must remain passive, and are a follower in your swing, not a leader.

Before the club finishes at the top, the body must begin moving toward impact with the arms and club lagging behind (the body should drag the arms and club, not vice versa).
